One of the better store found dry dog foods is from Southern States Supply and their brand named Southern States food. The ingredients of this brand name are from our farmers. No imports, which is so very important when hunting a good feed for your animals. I've used it for the last seven years for a wide range of ages from 17 weeks to 15 years. It has never let me down. There is a lot of hype out there about high engery foods for high engery dogs. HA HA HA! The joke is on you!! It's all a lot of marketing B/S.
All dogs from age 15 weeks to age three are chomping at the bit. Dogs age differently then people think. It's not 7 to 1 of our years as you been told all your life. No' it's different. Our 1 year is 14 for them, two years for us is 26 for them. There after there age scales back to 1 year of ours to 4 for them, and their bodies reaching their sexual maturety at 18 not 26, which is less then one and a half of our years, or the third heat of your female aussie. This is healthy and normal for them to become sexually active even before this but at 18, or on the third heat breeding is safe.
Sorry all you dog registery's your just plain wrong in all your thinking about dogs. They always have been. There true nitwits. They are not qualified to make any rules, or to suggest and enforce breeding regulations on anything concerning any breed. Well? Look. By there thinking in the past you bred them at age 14 when they wanted you to think 1 year=7 right? 14 is not maturety for dogs. 14 these days for a dog is = to the age in our years as one year. They never knew anything about dogs. Other then they can make lots of money off of them and there owners. It should make you mad. Now go throw your TV out the window and yell I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more. Then wait for the cops to show up.
This is what there bodies tell us about their aging process, so there by the way people feed them and breed them in respect to age must have been wrong from the start. Savvy? Look here. Can you guess who started the age chart to begin with in relation to the feeding chart? What data was used? Who pulled it out of thin air and why? That's right. Your instincts are good. The people most likely to profit off of you not knowing. The folks that make and sell you the feed as well as the ones makeing money to advertise it.
High protein food content of 25 is as high as I'll go, and the fat content 12 is just fine no more is needed for the first three years and this is the high end then down from there not up. In fact you don't need that much. 22/12 is a good all around dry food for many good years of health. But I only trust one brand myself. I won't recommend any other manufactured food other then what I know to be a good feed for all my aussie's. http://www.southernstates.com/products/petfood/index.aspx
The safest, cheapest and as well as the best food to feed your puppy is easy to make your self. ( Boiled boneless, skinless, Chicken with peas and carrots mixed with white rice made thick with rice not like a soup. ) You'll be amazed how well they do with this. It has many benifits, For one' the rice retains the fuilds in the body setting the tone for house training. Also has very good staying power in the body. A good summer feed in the heat, because it retains fuilds better. The protein from the chicken is amoung the best source there is for any dog, or puppy. Veggies such as carrots and peas provide them with vitamins and vegetables proteins to curb stool eatting. As well as for a good med. firm stool as they should have.
You can also feed them canned salom with cooked white rice with the same veg. If they swim a lot in salt water the Omega fatty acids in this will do the skin and hair very good. Uncle Benns minute rice a half a can of fish and tw0 scrambled eggs in the morning, and your chicken and rice mix at supper and your puppy, or dog is set to keep growing and will thrive. Don't fall for that STORE bought stock CRAP!
If you clicked the link on fda food recall and seen that recall list. It's hard to understand why these company's are still allowed to sell anything concerning food for anything. They killed and disabled tens of thousands of animals. I lost three of my aussie's behind that mess in 2007. How they work. Those company's say all natural! Feed the best food your best friend when in fact it was killing them. Dog food is assembled like your CPU. All the cheapest parts from all over the world gathered in one spot and mixed together. It's the FDAs job to ensure the parts are checked before it comes in to the USA. Not the company's that buy the poison and make it. Deign-ability. Saying the FDA was faulted as if the company's didn't know what they were buying. Maybe one or two... Ok I'd fall for that, but all those company's, more then one recall for the same thing. I'm no hay seed. You either. They murdered thousand of animals and made money while doing so. And even knew it was happening a year before the story broke on CNN.
Passing the buck. Don't be mislead. They care about money and that's all. They pay out millions for advertising to the AKC and others to run spots on there dog shows. Even during the time dogs were dying from it they advertised the poison for these companies. The AKC CKC NSDA ASDA and all other registery's don't care any more about your pet then the money they can get from you for getting them reg'd.
AS of this day the FDA still allows what they consiter acceptable amounts of those same ingredients in those dog foods mentioned on that list. Truley! What do you fine are acceptable amounts of toxins in your food? Defend the health of your dogs and remain vigivant. Don't deal with any company that as ever used and targeted your love of animals againest you for there own personal monatary gain. The FDA isn't to blame. Understand this; that there is politics, marketing, and money to be made off of you behind it as well.
Treats you got from a store, or recived from your bank teller at the drive through window are not safe. Why ? Need you really ask? Where are they stored in the bank and how many people handle them in a day, a week, a month? Would you eat it? I don't go to a bank to get my snack. They had their hands on dirty money all day and they touch your dogs food. They mean well, but no common scents at all. I just soon dig up grubs. There is no chance of getting sick from them and lots better for me. Your the stewarded of your aussie. Be a good one use your common scents.
For Treats; Just buy some plain beef jerky just like you might eat, nothing fancey even a table spoon of peanut butter is really good for a treat as well when they get a bit older as is a small hand full of unsalted peanuts for between meal snacks. Never feed any pork or any type of fowl fat, skin,or cooked bones to any animal, ever. Your puppy has been eatting the above mention paragraph stated foods scents their 5th week of life. Now it's up to you to assure them they will get the best from you too. Any farther questions feel free to email or call me. Remember that what is natual food for a dog can not be bagged by a machine. Any food that you have to mix in amounts for them to become accustom to is not good for them at all. Stay far away from them types of food. Save your money make your own like mention above and take your aussie to the beach with all the money you saved. Go play.
